2018-2019 Grants Application

Through the Community Partnership program, the Junior League of Northern Virginia (JLNV) will award grants of funds and/or volunteer hours to support Northern Virginia community programs in Fairfax, Loudoun and/or Prince William counties or the cities of Alexandria and/or Arlington

For the 2018-2019 grant cycle, the JLNV will match grants of funds and volunteer hours with community programs and projects selected in accordance with the terms identified below.

  • Each community partnership term is from June 2018 – May 2019. The League may support a Community Partnership for multiple years; however, the organization must reapply each year.
  • In addition to a grant award of between $1,000 and $3,000, each community partner may also be awarded a limited number of volunteer hours (up to 100 volunteer hours), if available, to support selected projects.
  • League volunteers are not intended to fill existing organizational/agency staffing needs or to take part in any fundraising activities.

The JLNV reserves the right to terminate its relationship with any Community Partner at any time and for any reason.

Terms of Partnership:

Proposed community projects should address a community need that is directly related to the JLNV’s focus area of combating childhood obesity through nutrition and physical activity education and should promote healthy eating and active living.

Mission Statement:

The JLNV is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

Focus Area:

The JLNV’s community initiatives focus on combatting childhood obesity by increasing the number of  elementary-age children living in Northern Virginia communities with Title 1 schools and food deserts who are empowered to make healthy eating and active living a priority. We do this by introducing children and their parents to where food comes from and to basic concepts of nutrition and healthy eating, and by supporting access to healthy food options and physical activity opportunities. Through its community grants, the JLNV helps support innovative projects or programs that will measurably improve the lives of elementary-age children in low income communities by empowering them to make healthy eating and active living a priority to help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues.

  • The mission of the community agency and/or of the agency’s proposed project must align with the JLNV mission and focus area.
  • If requesting volunteers, they must be utilized in quality positions that will allow the JLNV member to volunteer in three (3) hour blocks. Volunteer time commitment includes time for training, direct service and evaluation.
  • JLNV volunteers may not be asked to drive clients during project-related activities, solicit funds or services for other non-profit agencies as representatives of the JLNV, or plan/participate in another organization’s fundraiser for JLNV credit.
  • JLNV funds may not be used for newsletters, monthly publications, media items, salaries or fundraising efforts for other non-profit organizations.
